Help! Poison Ivy in My Mint Patch

Can you help  me with a natural way to get rid of poison ivy in my mint garden? Twenty seven years ago when we moved into our house, I planted one lone little sprig of mint in the ground behind my deck. Within 3 years, it spread into a beautiful lush 10X4 herbal garden of mint. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed my mint patch. It is a perennial herb so it popped its head through the hard cold ground every March and would hang on, still producing meekly, until mid November!  The picture above is last season's patch in full bloom in June! I found so many ways to enjoy that mint. I added fresh mint to all my salads, omelettes, fruit salads, etc. I dried the mint and added it to my cooking I made minted drinks like mint tea, mint lemonade, and mojitoes I made mint pestos and added dried mint to my veggies I cut fresh mint to keep in a vase in my kitchen I enjoyed the beautiful aroma of the mint when the wind was blowing A bunch of fresh mint from my mint garden last summer Over t...

Salad Making Shortcuts ( Make Ahead Mason Jar Salads)

Want a shortcut to make it easier to make a salad? This method is such a huge time saver ! Did you ever think if the salad were made, I would eat it?- but were too lazy or tired to make one. Sunday night has become salad night in my house . It is the night I not only make a big colorful salad for dinner, but while I already have all the veggies out, I  also make my salads for the entire week!  One mess 5 salads!. (yes, the salads stays very fresh for the week, and I'll tell you how). If you are like me, I love to eat healthy salads but I don't always feel like making them, especially at the end of a long day. Let's face it, it can be messy washing, peeling and cutting all the produce that goes into the salad. I usually don't want to make that mess every night, so I found a really helpful solution. I shop on the weekend and on Sunday late afternoon ( or evening) , I wash, peel, chop, etc. all the produce that I just bought. I then make a large bowl of delicious salad ...

The Conscious Parent: Book Review

Raising children is not always easy.  Do you get into power struggles or just don't know how to diffuse an argument? I just read a book that helps parents learn strategies to keep peace and harmony in their home and in all relationships. Guess who it starts with? The parent .. All of us have our own issues and baggage, hopes and dreams for our kids. It's often our very own expectations, hopes, and fears, that can exasperate relationships. I just love the book called The Conscious Parent written by Dr. Shafali Tsabary, A New York clinical psychologist who uses a mix of Eastern and Western philosophy to find ways to explore our relationship with own self so we can ultimately improve all of our relationships- Her book deals with one of the most intimate relationships, parenting, but her ideas help us to transform ourselves first -so we can empower our children. No matter what the age of  your kids, you can benefit from this book. I watched her video with Oprah and an i...

Cauliflower Mock Mashed Potatoes

Does a bowl of homemade mashed cauliflower taste as warm and creamy as a bowl of homemade mashed potatoes?   Not exactly, but the feeling is pretty close.  I have tried all kinds of recipes that call for cauliflower as a substitute for starchier ingredients like potatoes and rice, and they are all good! Cauliflower is easy to make, cooks up quickly, and has a mild flavor that kind of picks up the flavors of the other ingredients in a recipe. This bowl of mock mashed "Potatoes" taste like comfort food to me.  What I like the best about cauliflower is that is is low in both calories and carbs.  It makes for a healthy side dish that doesn't pack on the weight. It provides about 25 calories in 1 cup of cauliflower. Cauliflower is a nutritious vegetable as well . It is a good source of vitamin C, B vitamins, and minerals.  In addition, cauliflower contains powerful anti cancer oxidants.  There are so many interesting cauliflower recipes available...
